LOCAL BUSINESSMAN AND ENTREPRENEUR ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY

12/14/2009

Mark Greenberg of Litchfield, a successful businessman who has created hundreds of jobs over the past thirty years, today announced his candidacy as a Republican for the United States House of Representatives in Connecticut’s 5th District.

“For more than 30 years I have seen and been a part of what makes our economy work — and I have never been more concerned about the direction of our country than I am right now,” Greenberg said. “Washington is out of touch with families in Connecticut. Washington is broken and our economy continues down the wrong track.”

“We need to create more jobs, not more government programs,” Greenberg said. “Our nation’s tax structure and government regulations are stifling our ability to create good paying jobs,” Greenberg said. “I have dedicated my life to creating jobs and improving my community and I know what works. I am running because the future we all want for our children is in jeopardy.”

“Chris Murphy has been part of the problem in Washington. He has been one of the decision-makers who have protected the government status quo at the expense of our nation’s economy and our families,” Greenberg said. “Chris may be well-intentioned, but he is a career politician who does not know what it takes to build and run a business, meet a payroll, and make tough decisions that affect everyday families.”

“I know I can bring the change we need to Washington,” Greenberg said.

After graduating from Cornell University, Greenberg founded two successful companies. His first company, Adirondack Mobile Telephone and Adirondack Radio Telephone, supplied mobile telecommunication service throughout upstate New York. It was also the official provider of pagers and mobile phones used during the Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid New York.

In 1980, Greenberg created MGRE, a firm that is now one of New York City’s largest real estate management firms based upon residential properties managed.

Greenberg owns several local businesses including The Market, a food market specializing in natural fish, meat, and groceries, Hemlock Kennels, and Goshen Hardware, an old-time hardware store servicing the northwest corner.

Greenberg and his wife Linda founded The Simon Foundation, Inc, a not-for-profit animal rescue shelter which has helped adopt more than 500 dogs to loving homes. The foundation is slated to open its new Bloomfield, Connecticut rescue facility in December 2009.
Mark and Linda live with their four young children in Litchfield.
